About MATsui

Located at 100 Legacy Dr, Plano, TX 75023, MATsui operates as a japanese serving Plano in Texas. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Plano, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Texas run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–7:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (972) 517-0495. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is matsuirestaurant.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 141 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Plano is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Plano peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Enjoyed the Matsui bowl with generous amounts of tempura shrimp and veggies. So much food I needed help to finish!

Here’s a 5/5 review you can post: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Matsui is always a family favorite whenever we visit the Mitsuwa food court. My wife and two boys absolutely love eating here, and it has become one of our go-to spots. We usually order the #5 Chicken Katsudon with hot udon and a side of chicken karaage, and it’s consistently delicious every time. The katsudon is flavorful, the udon is comforting, and the karaage is perfectly crispy. I’m also a big fan of the chicken katsu curry. The katsu is cooked perfectly and pairs great with the rich, flavorful curry sauce. The portions are generous, the food is fresh, and the quality is consistently excellent. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese comfort food while shopping at Mitsuwa, Matsui is a must-try. Highly recommended!

Since this restaurant is in a food court, there’s no table service, and the ambiance is just what you’d expect from a typical Japanese food court. The pork chops were perfectly crispy, though a bit lean for my tasteβ€”I personally prefer a fattier cut. That said, it was still a great lunch, and the fried oysters were equally delicious. I’d definitely come back for another meal!

MATsui is a fantastic spot for Japanese comfort food! The Crispy Chicken is a must-tryβ€”perfectly golden, crunchy, and flavorful without being too greasy. It’s cooked just right, making every bite satisfying. Another standout is the Takoyaki, which is deliciously crispy on the outside and soft inside, with a great balance of flavors. The toppings and sauce add just the right touch, making it one of the best I’ve had. The location is also great, making it convenient to stop by for a quick bite or a casual meal. With friendly service and a cozy atmosphere, MATsui is definitely worth visiting if you're craving some quality Japanese street food.

Out of all the food stands at Mitsuwa, Matsui is my favorite. I've been eating here since we first moved down to Dallas in 2019, and the quality hasn't changed. COVID-19 made a lot of the stands close down at Mitsuwa, but Matsui stayed strong during that time. They have a glass display of what the dishes look like (similar to what you see in Japan), and the portions are pretty big. I don't think their prices increased much in the last 3 years, which is why I still love to eat here. I usually get a small pork katsu don combo, and it comes with either cold soba noodles or hot udon soup. The price is like $13 after taxes and I have a bit of leftovers to take home. If you want some curry, get it on the side for $3. Ours came in a pretty big bowl and it was enough to feed 3 people. Overall, this is definitely one of the more solid spots in Mitsuwa if you want to dine at the food court.
